The Arms Race

Just as a Smith & Wesson beats four aces, so too does a 10,000-a-day vaccination site beat even these last few days of sunshine to lift our mood and signal that finally, oh my gawd, sumer is icumen in.

But the oddest evidence that the end could be near is Tuesday’s Globe and Mail editorial claiming We’re about to out-vaccinate the Americans.

“This week the share of Canadians who have received their first shot will, for the first time, exceed the share of Americans.” The Globe also predicts that once we surpass America’s rate of 47.3 per cent having one jab, “our lead will thereafter widen.”

How is this even possible?
