PASSPORT, PLEASE.

Trump Tower, Trump Hotel, Trump (and Kennedy) Center, Trump Institute, Trump Park, Trump Highway, Trump Boulevard and, as of last week, Trump Station (replacing Penn Station in New York), and Trump International Airport (replacing Dulles International in Virginia).

These last two are just possibilities for now. They’re the quo in the quid pro quo of Trump unfreezing billions of dollars in funding for a major New York infrastructure project. If Senate Democrats say yes to Trump’s offer, the taps will open. They’ve said no so far, though this is only the opening round of negotiations.

THE NATIONAL GUARD BECOMES THE NATIONAL GARDENER.

Donald Trump will soon send the National Guard into Memphis or into Chicago, a city where violent crime has been way down and the White House posted images headed“Chipocalypse Now,” and “I love the smell of deportations in the morning.”

It’s certain there will be marches, riots, arrests, blood and likely death in the weeks to come – because Chicago is not the District of Columbia, which is a government town. For Mr. Trump, Chicago is enemy territory, and it’s time to break heads the way Mayor Richard J. Daley did in 1968 when anti-Vietnam War protestors marched on the Democratic Convention.

There may be a better way.

HOW NOT TO DISINVITE SOMEONE TO YOUR PARTY.

But what if they turn up anyway? 

This happens a lot these days as speakers are cancelled, invitations revoked, and passports seized.

Mexican conductor Enrique Bátiz died last week at the age of 82. His family posted a notice about his funeral, prohibiting 13 musicians from attending it. Why?  “Owing to circumstances known to everyone, his family and friends respectfully request that the following persons abstain from attending the funeral and the burial…”
