Donald Trump is “writing” a “book.”
I italicize those words because their meaning to Mr. Trump is quite different from what you and I mean.
But on Friday, the 20-time “author” announced that he’s writing his memoirs. “I’m writing like crazy,” Trump said, “and when the time comes, you’ll see the book of all books.”
For a very long time American Presidents have used their retirement to write about their years in office, from James Buchanan who left office in 1861, to Barack Obama whose A Promised Land has been 23 weeks on The New York Times’ best-seller list.
Unlike Obama who, with his wife Michelle, got a stunning $65 million advance from their publisher, Penguin Random House, Trump will not get any advance at all from the major publishers for the simple reason that they won’t go near him.
