America is such a rich well of strangeness that you can uncover almost any belief about anything and hold it up as proof of whatever strangeness you fancy.
Like only brown cows produce chocolate milk, or dinosaurs and humans co-existed, or “a group of Satan-worshiping elites who run a child sex ring are trying to control our politics and media”. This last example, of course, describes Q-Anon which has infiltrated the Republican Party and whose membership, according to the New York Times, “is probably in the millions.”
Most of this stuff is harmless, except Q-Anon because it urged its followers to attack the US Congress on January 6th. But Q-Anon is also an accomplice in a form of craziness so harmful that it’s killing thousands of Americans and making life miserable for millions more. This is in urging its members not to get vaccinated.
Many Americans are not just “vaccine-hesitant”, they’re “vaccine-repellant.” They believe that all vaccines are harmful. But ask any doctor what they think of vaccines and they will tell you how enormously beneficial they are. Not all doctors, of course. Dr. Kulvinder Kaur Gill of Brampton who tweeted “If you have not yet figured out that we don’t need a vaccine, you are not paying attention.” Then again, there are 32,000 doctors in Ontario. So I’ll go with the big battalions on this issue.
I happen to think that the anti-vaxxers are crazy. I also think they’re killing themselves and opening the door to more lockdowns. So, on the principle of “know your enemy,” it’s instructive to learn who the leaders of the anti-vaxxer movement are.
